Cultural Awareness Walk and Talk - Hidden Culture/Decolonising Melbourne with Uncle Shane Charles
This is a special in-person NAIDOC week event.
Shane Charles will lead participants on a cultural immersion walking tour along Melbourne's Birrarung healing sites.
The walk will start at Enterprise Wharf near the Melbourne Aquarium in the CBD and will include a Welcome to Country, smoking ceremony and didgeridoo performances.

The Diversity Communities of Practice |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
The Diversity Communities of Practice (DCoP) offers aged care providers diversity coaching and mentoring and the opportunity to learn from their peers about inclusive practices in aged care.
The next DCoP for 2023 will be on Tuesday 30 May from 2pm to 3pm (Melbourne time). Each organisation can register two leaders from their organisation to attend.
This DCoP will focus on how organisations can better understand and collect data to drive culturally inclusive care.

The Centre for Cultural Diversity in Ageing together with Red Hat films produced a video to acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians of Country throughout Australia in collaboration with Uncle Shane Charles.
Uncle Shane Charles is the Co-Chair of Reconciliation Victoria, as well as an academic, government advisor and proud Yorta Yorta, Wurundjeri and Boon Wurrung man. |

The Centre encourages aged care providers to set up a free account in the Centre's Inclusive Service Standards Portal. The online platform is designed to support aged care providers to self-assess against the Inclusive Service Standards, and to identify any gaps or areas for improvement. The portal is facilitated with the help of BNG NGO Services Online.

Translated fact sheet on Serious Incident Response Scheme
The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission has developed resources for recipients of home care services including a Serious Incident Response Scheme (SIRS) fact sheet.
The SIRS helps reduce the risk of abuse and neglect for people receiving aged care.
The fact sheet, available in 25 languages, covers what the SIRS is, what is expected of providers, what a SIRS reportable incident is and how to seek help if needed.

Swinburne University’s Living Lab has engaged with residents from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds from Martin Luther Homes through a co-design research initiative that included creating and co-producing digital stories.

Whereto Research would like to engage seniors from diverse backgrounds
The Department of Health and Aged Care has commissioned Whereto Research to work with people from diverse backgrounds to provide advice on improving the Department’s engagement strategies. Whereto is an independent social research company.
They would like to invite people from culturally and linguistically diverse communities who are currently accessing aged care, or who might want to access aged care services to take part in a confidential interview before 31 May 2023.
